Golden Lentil Indian Dal, Amy's Inspired Soup

 


I had to research the spices, because Amy's just puts "spices". 

I think I did good though. 

Ingredients:

  • 1/4 cup cooked yellow split peas (green is okay) 🫛 
  • 1/4 cup cooked red lentils (regular is okay) 🫘 
  • 1/2 cup cooked carrots 🥕 
  • 1 tbsp tomato paste 🍅 
  • 2 tbsp unsalted butter 🧈 
  • 1/2 cup diced onion 🧅 
  • 1 tsp garlic powder 🧄 
  • 1 tbsp ginger juice 🫚 (like Ginger People brand)
  • 1/2 tbsp ground turmeric 🟨
  • 1 cup filtered water 💦 
  • 2 tsp garam masala (cumin, coriander, cardamom, black pepper, clove, nutmeg, cinnamon, bay leaf) 🍃 
  • 2 tsp Nigella (black cumin seeds)  ⚫️
  • 1 tsp crushed red pepper flakes 🌶️ 
  • 1/2 tsp salt 🧂 
Directions:
  1. In a Vitamix blender, combine peas, lentils, carrots, tomato paste, chili flakes and water. Blend until smooth. 
  2. On the stove, heat butter, nigella, and onions over medium-high heat, and cook until onions are golden brown. 
  3. Add purée and remaining spices. Stir well. 
  4. Bring up to a boil and reduce heat to low. 
  5. Simmer for 20 minutes, stirring regularly.
